The Year 9 Cullybackey ‘Dream Team’ have risen to the top of the Ballymena Hockey League after beating local schools. This league is a Secondary School league, which allows Grammar schools to enter their B teams.
The Year 9 team beat Slemish College 5-0, Dunclug College 3-0, Ballymena Academy 1-0 and finally Cambridge House 5-0 to win the league!
The Year 9 Hockey team played every game with lots of energy and determination. Elsa Brown, our Gk has improved so much from Year 8 and has made some amazing saves throughout this season of hockey. Our superb defence players; Samara McMaster, Emma Glendinning, Kirsten Perry and Jessica Wilkinson have been superb in defence, constantly marking and making perfectly timed tackles.
The engines of the team, our midfield players, Ella Knowles, Anna-Grace Donnelly and Codie-Leigh Elliot, have worked so hard in the middle of the pitch, constantly helping the attack and also getting back to help our defence when needed. Keep up the excellent fitness levels girls.
Our attacking upfront players, Elana Mckay, Erin Hampsire and Shanefa Spiers, have such an eye for the goal, they never give up, always attacking and making the other teams’ GKs work hard! The top goal scorer this season is a close tie between Erin and Shanefa, with both girls excelling up front.
Finally, let’s not forget to mention our super subs, Janelle McIntyre, Rebecca Lowry and Sophie Barr. All three girls trained hard all year and were always capable to come on to the pitch at any minute or any position of the game.
An excellent season from the Year 9 girls, with superb team work from everyone on the team. Congratulations girls and well done. I’m very proud of you all- Mrs Hall.
