Welcome to the Cullybackey College Debating Society. Every week we debate a range of contemporary topics that the students find interesting and engaging. Each half term the Debating Society comes together to decide what the topics will be for the term ahead. Those who attend the weekly debates learn how to structure arguments, speak persuasively and think on their feet. Join us to be informed and entertained with some verbal jousting.

The Debating Society promotes skills such as:

Critical thinking
Communication skills
Independent research
Teamwork

2020 was particularly exciting for the Debating Society. Despite being our first year, our school was selected to represent NI in the European Youth Parliament in Liverpool.

As well as weekly meetings we organise various trips throughout the year, as you can see from the posts below.

Cullybackey Debating Society

At the beginning of February, members of the Cullybackey Debating Society were invited to Belfast City Hall to debate two of the great issues of our day: climate change and social media. Schools from across Northern Ireland were represented and our students made excellent contributions to the issues debated. Their points were well argued and supported by well researched evidence. The organisers of the event were very impressed with the fluency with which our students spoke on the issues and looked forward to welcoming them back next year.
