The IFA 7 a-side Football festival was held recently at Mallusk playing fields with Cullybackey College’s girls coming out in force. This event was sponsored by Electric Ireland to promote Girls Football, with over 1400 Girls attending the event from all over Northern Ireland. The team were up against RS Armagh, RS Enniskillen, Bloomfield, Laurelhill and St Patrick’s, with each match lasting 15 minutes and the winner of the section qualifying for the quarter finals.
The first match was against RS Armagh, which the girls sadly lost due to a last minute goal from the opposition. Next up was Bloomfield but unfortunately this tougher side saw the girls lose 3-0. A 2-0 win against St Patricks lifted team spirits, with goals scored by Halle Millar and Shanefa Spiers. The final match in the group was against Laurehill, which ended in a 6-0 defeat, with this school proving to be the ones to beat in the whole competition.
The girls played exceptionally well under difficult circumstances and tough opposite so very well done to all who participated.
