The House System
Ethos: “Recognising Character, Rewarding Growth”
At Cullybackey College, our House System is the heartbeat of our school community. It is the framework through which we build belonging, ignite healthy competition, and celebrate the diverse talents of our pupils.
Being part of a House isn’t just about a badge or a colour; it is about being part of a family, within a family. Whether on the sports field, in the classroom, or through acts of Integrity, Community, Ambition and Leadership, our House System ensures that every pupil has the opportunity to contribute to a collective goal.
We believe that by fostering a sense of identity and loyalty, we empower our pupils to step out of their comfort zones and take pride in their achievements. When we use our House Call to Action, “Be House Proud”, we are asking our pupils to take pride in themselves, their peers, and their school.
What the House System Promotes
Our House System is central to student wellbeing, promoting:
- A Sense of Belonging: Creating smaller, supportive communities where pupils across different year groups can mentor and support one another.
- Character Development: Encouraging resilience, leadership, and integrity through various House challenges and responsibilities.
- Healthy Competition: Teaching pupils how to win with humility, lose with grace, and always strive for their personal best.
- Inclusivity: Ensuring that every success, no matter how small, is captured. From 100% attendance to a brilliant piece of art, every point counts toward the House Shield.
Our Core Aims
To ensure the House System remains a driving force for excellence, we have established four core aims:
- To cultivate a culture of recognition.
- To drive individual and collective growth.
- To strengthen the pupil voice and leadership.
- To foster community and school spirit.
