Today the year 8 rugby team went to Ballymoney for their first tournament of the season.
We started with a tough game against Linseal and struggled in the first half ending 3-0 down. After a good conversation and a few changes, we managed to bring the score back to 3-2 but unfortunately ran out of time to get a result. The second game was against a very strong Ballymoney team who had a very strong team with many students representing clubs outside of school. We shown great confidence and team work to push them right to the end of the game finishing in a 4-4 draw. The final game was against local team Dunclug who just this week beat our under 14’s and under 16’s so we had a point to prove. Everything came together brilliantly, and we managed to win the game 6-3 capping a great day of rugby.
Special mentions go to Teejay Todd for running in 5 tries and Lucy Maternaghan for her brilliant runs and controlling the defensive line. Grace Steward laced up her rugby boots for the very first time and was a stonewall in defence making a range of tackles stopping the other team from scoring.
Our next tournament is at the end of November so if you want to give rugby a try come to training on Wednesdays 3:30- 4:30.
