The Year 8 rugby team recently travelled to play in the Ulster High Schools’ qualifiers at Ballymoney RFC. The team competed bravely, winning one, drawing one and losing two games. A fine win over Sperrin set the tone for the boy’s and girl’s squad. Despite a heavy defeat against eventual winners Limavady HS the team played admirably in their second game against them, only losing by one try, whilst drawing with Sperrin in their second game. Unfortunately for our squad missed out on finals qualification.
However, they can now look forward to the annual Year 8 NEBSSA competition being held at Coleraine GS next week, to cap off a superb season. Best on the day for Cullybackey included Aaron Higgins, Thomas Cruikshank and Harry McKeown. Meanwhile, this tournament displayed massive strides in terms of progress for the likes of Charlie Wilson, Jamie Faloon and Harley Barr. The future is most certainly bright for rugby at school.
