Year 8 Mid Antrim Cup Success!

Our Year 8 football squad performed heroics to claim the Year 8 Mid Antrim Cup against a brilliant Sperrin College on Thursday. This is an amazing achievement for our school, competing against some of the biggest schools in the area to claim the trophy.

The final itself was a thrilling 3-3 draw, with Cullybackey taking the lead three times only to be pegged back each time by Sperrin. Our goals were scored by Robbie Logan, Emily Rainey and a Jesse Mark assisted own goal. The game went to the dreaded penalty shootout. Both teams could not be separated until the 14th kick of the shootout, with Cullybackey claiming a 7-6 victory in a nail biting game.

Player of the match was a hard one to call, with so many outstanding performances throughout. Captain Izak Richmond lifted the trophy after leading by example on the pitch, whilst Emily Rainey in attack and Bobby Archer in defence were superb, not forgetting goalkeeper Harry Tang who made some vital saves throughout.

Each and every pupil can be so proud of their achievements this week, as can the merry band of pupils, teachers and parents who supported the team through the gripping final.

The squad were treated to a whole school “Celebration Assembly” on Friday morning to recognise their success, as well as a complimentary lunch to finish off a superb week of Sport!
