On Tuesday, the undefeated Cullybackey rugby team came up against very strong opposition in the form of Ballyclare High School. The team performed exceptionally throughout, spending the vast majority of the first half on the opposition line, only to drop the ball over the line and Ballyclare to run in a solo try to take an undeserved lead.
Cullybackey fought back well in the second half, scoring three tries of their own, and when pushing for a winner in the last couple of minutes, unfortunately knocked the ball on at the break down, resulting in Ballyclare running in for their match winning try.
The whole squad can hold their head high, coming so close to causing a huge upset against one of the countries largest rugby playing high schools.
The future for this team is very bright, with the chance to qualify for the quarter finals still within the squad’s hands.
We keep encouraging your attendance at training as the effort you are putting in really is paying off.
