U16 Rugby: Cullybackey vs Dunclug – A Nail-Biting Local Derby

In a thrilling local derby, Cullybackey’s U16 rugby team—proudly wearing maroon—took on Dunclug College in a match full of momentum swings and standout performances. Dunclug started fast, scoring two early tries to take the lead. But Cullybackey responded with determination, as Oliver Calderwood crossed the line twice and Jack Baird added the extras with accurate spot kicking, giving Cullybackey a 14–10 lead at half-time.After the break, Dunclug came out firing, scoring two quick tries to move ahead 14–22. Cullybackey hit back through Harry Steele, who finished superbly near the touchline to bring the maroon side back into the lead at 24–22 with ten minutes to play.

In the dying moments, Dunclug capitalised on an overlap and broke through the Cullybackey defence to edge ahead 24–27. Despite a frantic final push, Cullybackey couldn’t quite find the winning score.
