Dr Henry Ward, Director of the Freeland’s Foundation, visited Cullybackey College on Tuesday 11th November with Kira Topalain, MAC Creative Learning Officer, as part of the New Visions project that they generously fund.
Together with five other artist-teachers Mrs Andrews holds a fellowship with The MAC project which looks at reimagining Art and Design education.
The morning was spent illustrating the many ways in which our school has benefited through its participation from gallery visits, artist workshops, teacher professional development, new resources and raising the profile of the subject and school to name a few.
Mrs Andrews joined Henry at The MAC in the afternoon for a brainstorming session with the other participating artists/teachers and Anne McGinn, Education Manager from CCEA, to explore ways in which the subject can be improved and shared as part of the current public consultation.
The day concluded with a reception at The MAC to showcase Year 1 of the project to an audience of school leaders, teachers, Board of Governors and artists. Vice Principal Mr Boyd accompanied by Art & Design teachers Mrs Slack (HoD), Miss Gallagher and Mrs Andrews attended with our partnered artist Jayne Cherry. They were guided through the current exhibition of work by William McKeown by the senior curator Hugh Mulholland. Education Manager Elaine Forde provided an overview of the project to date and invited Henry Ward to share his thoughts on the project of which he was able to draw on his earlier school visit and was most complementary of the ongoing work.
