U12 Rugby

Cullybackey College Under 12 Rugby team competed in the Ulster U12 Northern Region qualifying competition, on Tuesday 12th February at Coleraine RFC. Hoping to emulate their Under 14 counterparts, who won their Under 14 Bowl Competition the previous week, the team found it tough against strong opposition in their final group games.

The tournament started brightly, with the team winning 7-1 win against St Columbs, before a 4-1 defeat of Lisneal College. This set the team up well for final games against St Killian’s College and Limavady HS. Narrow last minute 3-2 defeats in both games prevented the team from progressing to the finals. A final 4-1 defeat to Ballymoney HS saw the team bow out of the tournament.

All in all, a worthwhile tournament in which a lot of players were given further rugby exposure in competition format. Excellent displays from all players has added to the potential of our school in this sport. The future is certainly very bright as the school look to develop rugby further.
