Yesterday saw the Year 9s play in their annual NEBSSA Rugby Tournament. We were the only high school in attendance, with the boys coming up against the seven best grammar schools in the area. Gaining valuable match experience was the main aim of the competition for this very young side, with several of the squad making their Cullybackey College debuts. The boys performed very well, resulting in a semi final place in the plate competition. Unfortunately, this proved to be the final step, with the boys coming up against an exceptionally strong and well drilled Ballymena Academy side. The whole squad can hold their heads high, as their performances had lots of positives. Hopefully the squad can come together and continue to train hard on Monday afternoons and carry this momentum into next season and be ready for a strong Under 14 Ulster Cup campaign, once again.
Players of note:
Max Brown – excellent running and last ditch tackling
Bobby Munnis – fantastic carrying, tackling and rucking
Jack Baird – creative passing and vision and hard running with and without the ball
