Sixth Form

Year 13 pupils volunteered their time to help the Ballymena Rotary Club organise food donations from local schools. It was amazing to see the massive collection of food from schools and to see the fantastic effort from the local rotary club.

Last week our Head Boy, Head Girl and their deputies, participated in a leadership conference at Slemish College. They had the opportunity to work with students from other schools and gained a valuable insight from speakers about what makes a good leader. It was an enjoyable and worthwhile opportunity.

Sixth Form students attended the PSNI Roadsafe Roadshow to receive the hard-hitting reality of a fatal road traffic collision.  We hope this presentation helps our young drivers to understand the real consequences of bad driving decisions and that they stay safe on our roads.

Three of our Year 13 students entered the Rotary Club Youth Leadership Development Competition. This event focuses on work experience, leadership, personal achievements, planning and organisation with the emphasis on the qualities needed for leadership and leadership potential. Year 13 students received training from START 360 to prepare them for Peer Mentoring. They explored the issues that affect young people and became more aware of how to provide support. Many thanks to Niamh Connery and Gerry McVeigh from START 360 for their time and expertise.

The ER&M University Roadshow returned to Cullybackey College this week. This included a presentation on a range of topics such as: what to consider when choosing your degree and university, the application process, personal statement advice along with fees and funding information.  The presentation was followed by a traditional careers fair session; an opportunity enabling

Throughout the year, Sixth form students have supported KS3 students with Reading and Numeracy. To acknowledge our thanks they were rewarded with a pizza lunch. Many thanks to all involved.

Yesterday was ‘Time to Talk Day’. Today our Sixth form Peer Mentors went into Key Stage 3 classes to discuss what mental health is and who we can talk to.

Sixth Form Peer Mentors were working with KS3 pupils this morning. KS3 pupils were challenged with a Christmas themed Numeracy activity. Well done for taking part and to all the prize winners.
