Year 9 students, as part of their Bizarre Bodies science unit, enthusiastically engaged in a pig heart dissection. Working in small groups, they carefully followed instructions to identify and explore the major external and internal structures of the organ, including the atria, ventricles, valves, and major blood vessels. This hands-on activity allowed them to gain a deeper, more concrete understanding of the circulatory system, contrasting diagrams with the real, three-dimensional anatomy, and directly observing the heart’s structure and function. The dissection served to link classroom theory to practical biology and was a memorable, visceral learning experience.
