2020 has been a very challenging year for our local community and particularly our elderly residents. Cullybackey College Students’ Council in conjunction with local businesses decided to add a bit of festive cheer by delivering Christmas food hampers to each of the elderly residents of the Tobar Fold.
Sarah Hanna, Student Council President, stated that: “2020 has been a tough year for us all. As a Student Council we took a collective decision to ensure that elderly and vulnerable members of our local community know that they haven’t been forgotten about.”
Towards the end of November, the Students’ Council contacted local businesses to ascertain the possibility of helping out with the hampers initiative. The response from the local businesses was outstanding and testament of the excellent community spirit in the Cullybackey area.
Head Girl, Jasmine McCrory had this to say about the response from local businesses: “The response we got from the local businesses was beyond our wildest dreams. The generosity that they showed ensured that our Christmas Hamper Appeal was a huge success. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Moby Chip, Cranswick Country Foods, Toast, Maine Bakery, Ashbrook Interiors, TJ Douds and Hayes Bridge Service Station for their generosity in what is a challenging time for businesses across NI.”
The Student Council really enjoyed making hampers for each of the residents at the Tobar Fold. On Thursday 3rd December 2020, Student Council representatives delivered the Hampers to the residents.
Head Boy, Adam Wilson stated, “it was brilliant to see the joy on the residents’ faces when we delivered the Hampers. It was a privilege to be involved in this and to see the difference this gesture made to the residents.”
