The PE department at Cullybackey College recently organised a trip to North West England to visit both Manchester City FC and Liverpool FC. 41 boys departed the school with Ulsterbus Tours on Friday 8th March, returning home late on Sunday 10th March. This was dubbed “a fast and furious trip”, with many activities pencilled in throughout the weekend.
After travelling via Cairnryan, the group arrived at their hotel in Haydock for a well-earned feast of food, before getting up on Saturday morning to visit Anfield Stadium, home of Liverpool FC. At Anfield, the boys were treated to a tour of the stadium, as well as a visit to the club museum and shop. Many Liverpool supporters saw this as the best part of the trip, despite heading to a match in Manchester later that day. The boys then visited the Trafford Centre for a spot of shopping before heading to the Etihad Stadium to watch Premier League Champions Manchester City play against Watford. Man City ended up winning by 3-1, much to the dismay of the many Liverpool fans we had on the trip. A quick stop at McDonalds on the way home topped off a very busy Saturday.
On Sunday morning the boys travelled a short distance to train for 90 minutes as a junior and senior group. This was much needed exercise, particularly after the amount of eating out the boys had done the previous two days. Football was played in difficult conditions, but in great spirit. A quick shower, some lunch and it was back up the road, a quick stop at Greenwich Shops before catching the bus home to Cullybackey.
Each and every boy on the trip thoroughly enjoyed themselves and were a true credit the school badge. With this in mind, the PE department are already putting plans in place for their next overseas trip – stay tuned!
