Cup defeat for Year 10s – 2nd February
The Year 10s bowed out of the Mid Antrim Cup, defeated 5-3 by Dunclug at home, with Calan McFall again in the thick of the action grabbing a couple of goals. The Year 10 and Year 11 teams wish their Year 8 and 9 school mates every success in their upcoming cup games.
Vital point picked up in first league game – 29th September
The Year 10 footballers picked up what could prove to be a vital point in their first Mid-Antrim league game of the season. Against a team of unknowns from Crumlin Integrated College, it was captain Calan McFall’s team who started the strongest and indeed took the lead after only eight minutes, the rock solid Robbie Gilchrist poking home past the keeper from close range, after some excellent creative play by Adam Steele and Gary Arbuthnot down the right hand side. After this it looked as if it would soon be 2-0 as the home team dominated play. However, credit to Crumlin who dug in and found their feet quickly in the daunting Pottinger Street home pitch.
The message at half time was simple, grab the second goal and put the game to bed. A period of sleepiness ensued and it was Crumlin who capitalised, their tricky left winger creating an opportunity and it was soon 1-1. Step up co-vice captain Steele to ‘steal’ the lead, firing home after a great individual run. Fitness played a part in the last fifteen minutes and the visitors grabbed a deserved equaliser, firing past Ryan McGrath to make it 2-2. A great team performance from the Year 10 team and credit must go to all 16 players in the squad for their exemplary attitude and performance. Cameron Kerr and Thomas Lowry were rocks at the back, whilst McFall and Horner controlled the middle with Zack McCombe providing a good target up front. Man of the match: Thomas Lowry. Next up will be two away trips to Dunclug College and Slemish College.
